When Metal Gear Solid 4 was given a spring 2008 release date, people bemoaned the long wait as if they didn’t expect it. It seems they better get moaning some more, as it’s been announced that the game has now been pushed back even more to Q2 of 2008, turning a March release into an April-June one.
Konami’s press release states that, instead of March, the developers had been working toward a winter 2007 launch, which has confused some people, although it could just be suggesting that this had been the company’s intention before Kojima announced the 2008 launch window.
Konami had initially intended to release Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots this winter and has been working on the production of the title. Konami has decided to delay the title’s release in order to make further improvements to the quality of the game and provide even greater enjoyment for more customers worldwide.
This is sure to cause a great wailing and gnashing of teeth among the local villagers, as nobody likes a delay. Still, if it makes sure Guns of the Patriots is as excellent as I’m hoping it’ll be, one can’t really complain.

It’s fancy new firmware time for the PlayStation Portable! Firmware version 3.72 is up and ready for downloading; the installer lists the following features:
- You can now set custom themes in [Theme Settings] under [Settings].
- Support has been added for assigning buttons in [Remote Play].
- A scene search feature has been added under [Video].
- Sequential playback is now supported under [Video].
- Simultaneous playback of content under [Music] and [Photo] is now supported
- A correction has been made to the settings for some regions.
- Support for PLAYSTATION Network titles has been expanded.
Nothing too fancy here, save for the expanded PlayStation Network title support. Word on the street is that this update will also tie in with an upcoming PlayStation 3 firmware update, which will allow users to power on their console remotely using Sony’s little portable that could.
No word on when all of this crazy talk will become a reality, but we can’t imagine that this PS3 feature will follow too far behind.

Recently we brought you news that Krystal — the She-Ra to Fox McCloud’s He-Man — had been revealed as a character in the upcoming Super Smash Bros. Brawl via a combination of cunning, stealth and being able to read web pages. It seems that Alesia Glidewell’s online resumé contained an entry detailing her work as the voice of the anthropoid sex object in the upcoming fighter.
But like Cringer, the web is prone to changing shape without notice. As of this morning we received a tip stating the entry had been removed from Ms. Glidewell’s page, and upon surfing over you can clearly see a blank space where the notation once was.
We’re inclined to believe this is a move intended to prevent further revelations from spilling out before Nintendo is ready to open their bag o’ updates, but there is always the chance that this signals the removal of le fille renard from Brawl. Until we know more, we’re going to sit here with our eyes closed, holding our fingers in our ears and trying damn hard to pretend you all aren’t masturbating to fox-themed femslash fiction.
You all disgust me.

What do you get when you add waggle to one of the most critically acclaimed games ever, and then slap a $29.99 price tag on it? You get over 1 million units shipped worldwide, that’s what!
Today, Capcom announced that Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition has hit the 1 million unit shipped milestone. Imagine that, an M-rated "hardcore" title selling by the boat load on the Wii! Hey, maybe people actually will buy these kinds of games for the Nintendo’s console if they’re actualy — gasp — good! Hey Valve, are you listening?
It remains to be seen whether or not Capcom can repeat the success with Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles, which hits shelves on November 13 … the same day Super Mario Galaxy is in stores. Ouch.

When he’s not bringing Shatner back, MySpace user, James at War turns Akon’s apologetic anthem, Sorry Blame Me, into a Halo 3 tribute.
And while it’s an attempt to appease the videogame widows as much a song about the game, notice how the lyrics never take responsibility; you can sense the singer slinking back to the game during the slow fade-out. Yes, that sounds like a typical gamer to us.
Watch the music video after the break, and hum it to your loved ones.

Halo 3: Landfall, a combination of Neill Blomkamp’s three previously-released live-action short videos depicting the events following Halo 2, has now been released online; it is also available through Xbox Live.
One thing we noticed as the film progresses is the improved quality between each of the three shorts. Of course, the next logical thought would be what Blomkamp could do with another Halo video, or perhaps even a film. Alas, it just wasn’t meant to be.

As a treat for Halloween, Bungie has announced that for 27 hours they will be offering zombified playlists for online Halo 3 matches. “It is infection and it is the playlist of the Living Dead,” said content manager Frank O’Connor.
Infected gametypes pit human players against one or more “zombies,” and although the humans start out advantaged, every fallen soldier comes back as a zombie. There are two main infected styles: Save One Bullet, which gives humans limited ammunition to expedite the failure process, and Creeping Death, which slows down the zombies but also makes them invisible. (A third variant, Creeping Rockets, was noted by Frankie where humans are more armed but zombies are more powerful.) The playlist is ranked, meaning you are more than welcome to use the time and rack up achievements.
All other questions should be directed at this F.A.Q. set up by Frankie (and protected by a demented guard dog, pictured). The playlist of the Living Dead kicks off tonight at 12:01 a.m. PDT (that’s 3:01 a.m. ET) and remains in rotation until 3:00 a.m. PDT on November 1.

Sci-fi sex alien Natasha Henstridge of Species fame will join the cast of Command & Conquer 3: Kane’s Wrath, as will former Alias star Carl Lumbly, better known around these parts as the voice of J’onn J’onzz, the Martian Manhunter on the Justice League animated series.
The pair will join veteran C&C actor Joe Kucan, a.k.a. Kane, as the central characters in the upcoming expansion, which will cover 20 years of in-game history, from the rebirth of the Brotherhood of Nod following the second Tiberium War to events beyond that of the most recent game.
The use of digitized actors is something of a ghost of gaming past, but Command & Conquer has nonetheless continued to embrace tradition in using live actors in its games, and any news that gives us an excuse to (go)ogle Natasha Henstridge is just fine by us.

Looks like the spit and polish Capcom put on Resident Evil 4 for the Wii paid off as the game has shipped one million units worldwide. It seems we’re now able to say that the Wii version of RE4 brought the old game back from the bargain bin grave and gave it life once more at a consumer friendly $30 price.
Capcom plans to keep showing that third party developers can cash in on the Wii with the launch of Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles on Nov. 13 and We Love Golf early next year. It’s worth noting that Capcom really has been the publisher to watch on new consoles. So far they’ve had numerous million sellers this generation like Dead Rising and Lost Planet — well, at least outside of Japan.

One of the major trends of this console generation is the prominence of downloadable content, released sometimes simultaneously with the title itself. That’s why it’s so surprising to us that Electronic Arts, one of the pureyors of the DLC for consoles, will not be offering any downloadable content for SKATE.
In an interview with EGM, executive producer Scott Blackwood said that they are “not planning any new content for Skate 1 … We didn’t want to go back and ask [people] for more money to get more shoes and shirts.” Blackwood added,”that’s not how we wanted to enter this market.”
Blackwood also lamented on the dearth of female characters in the game, noting that “we are going to make it up to [the players]. When we do it — and we will — it’s going to be done very well.” Given that DLC is reportedly not an option for the first title, look for female skaters — and the possibility of paying a premium for more in-game shoes and shirts — in the inevitable sequel, SKATE 2.
