We noticed a rumor making the rounds this morning regarding Unreal Tournament 3 not coming to the Xbox 360, and we thought to ourselves, "Say what now?" Having just spent time at Epic Games earlier in the week, it seemed pretty clear that once the PC and PlayStation 3 versions of the title were wrapped and under their collective belt, attention would be turned to Microsoft’s console.
So we went straight to our favorite source, Epic Games’ Vice President, Mark Rein.
"CVG took a quote from our President out context and started a rumor about UT3 on Xbox 360," he says in an e-mail. "We are absolutely still planning to release UT3 on Xbox 360 in 2008."
Rein also takes aim at CVG’s assertion that Unreal Tournament 3 and your PC aren’t going to play nice (due to hardware requirements), and most of his response to that has been reprinted in an updated post at CVG. Rein is also quick to point out that the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament 3 is coming along quite nicely.
"We had some fan sites here last week to play the game," he says, "and one of them reported that they didn’t see any difference between UT3 running on a high-end PC and running on the PS3, which is pretty amazing considering that our play test lab contains some pretty high-end PC hardware."
Having seen (and played) both versions of the game, we’ll back that up — the game looks great, and is running smoothly on the PS3. We look forward to seeing how it’ll run on the Xbox 360, and more importantly, how they’ll handle user-generated content.
