Yes, it’s true — THQ has announced All Star Cheer Squad, the world’s first (and only) cheerleading videogame. Not surprisingly, this competitive competitive cheerleading title is being designed with girls (and me) in mind, and will be available on the Wii and Nintendo DS.
The game follows one year in the life of a cheerleader (that’s you!), learning new cheers, designing routines, and eventually becoming captain (and we all know what happens next). The Wii title will incorporate the use of the Wii Remote and Nunchuck, which you’ll flail all over the place in a manner in which THQ hopes will make you feel like an actual cheerleader. But more exciting, All Star Cheer Squad will also incorporate the use of the Wii Balance Board, presumably to do more than tell the player they’re too fat to be on the squad.
THQ are also pleased to announce that cheerleading choreographer Tony Gonzales has signed on as chief consultant for the game. Even if you don’t know his name, you know his work — the choreographer (affectionately known as "Tony G") has done choreography work for Bring It On, as well as a number of other Hollywood films that have nothing to do with cheerleading. You may also own his DVD.
We won’t judge.
