Hudson Entertainment has announced today that Star Soldier R will be making its way to WiiWare when the service launches later this year. 

Already available for download on Japanese Wii consoles, Star Soldier R is a top-down vertically scrolling shooter that challenges player to nail high scores across three modes. In two-minute mode, players will have enough time to battle through one stage and face one boss. The five-minute mode introduces a second level, with its own unique boss battle. Finally, the game’s "Quick Shot Mode" puts players’ fingers to the test, in a test to see who has the fastest digits in gaming (Answer: It’s Toshiyuki Takahashi). The game also features support for regional online leaderboards, which should keep gamers fighting one another for the coveted top spots. 

Speaking to Hudson Entertainment’s CEO and President John Greiner at this year’s GDC, he expressed excitement over the possibilities and potentials of the platform. It’s likely that Star Soldier R is just the beginning of Hudson’s North American WiiWare support.
