The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon will mark the 10th anniversary for the Spyro the Dragon series. Hard to believe it has been ten years already. I still remember when the game first came out for the PlayStation 1. Everyone thought it was just another Mario wannabe, but as it turned out, it was a fantastic game.

Here we are now, after ten years and over a dozen games in the series. You’d think by now it would get really stale, but as it turns out, this may become one of the best Spyro in the series to date.

Hit the jump for my full impressions.

A press release just landed in my inbox from Ubisoft, announcing that a new Prince of Persia title is scheduled to be released this holiday for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. The game is being developed by Ubisoft’s Montreal studios, the same team who created the Prince of Persia trilogy and Assassin’s Creed.

Ubisoft doesn’t give many specifics, not even giving the game an official name. Might I suggest "Prince of Persia Prodigy"? They do tease that the game is the opening of a new chapter in the Prince of Persia universe, saying that the game features a ‘new breed of gameplay" and will introduce a "brand-new illustrative art style."

A completely separate Prince of Persia title is also being designed for the Nintendo DS, and will feature an entirely new storyline and new characters. With Ubisoft’s media day right around the corner, we should be hearing more on these titles in the coming month.

It was hard to obtain Nintendo’s Wii in 2006, but even now it is hard to come across a Nintendo Wii in a retail store. There’s still a crazy demand and a shortage of hardware. Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime told Wired.com in an interview that "We are passionately upset about the lack of product relative to demand."

He doesn’t seem to be too upset about the bragging rights. According to the Regginator, the average Wii system on a store shelf in the United States only sits there for an hour before being purchased. I don’t doubt that at all. But I wonder where the root of the problem really lies: in supply or in customer demand.

Fils-Aime says that production is controlled by Nintendo’s global headquarters in Japan, and apparently the North American Nintendo team has been pushing for more systems for the US.

According to TGdaily, of the 1.8 million Wii units rolled out per month, North America gets around 720,000.

What do you think of this one hour shelf life claim? And where do you think the Wii supply problem stems from?

I go to bed for eight hours, and what happens? A rumor of a Metroid Prime Trilogy for the Wii pops up. According to GoNintendo’s source, a SKU for the title had appeared in the computer system of a "certain retailer."

Could it be? All three Metroid Prime games in one convenient package? In a statement to CVG, Nintendo has shot down the idea saying its "Purely rumor and speculation." In other words, "Pictures or it didn’t happen."

Some people have speculated that this SKU could be the original two titles revamped for the Wii, and repackaged with the Wii game Metroid Prime 3 on one disc. To that, I say "No way, buster." For one, I can’t imagine that all three games would fit on one disc, and to go back and force Wii remote controls into GameCube titles is really not Nintendo’s style. They’re not Capcom, after all.

If this does exists, it’s more likely a discounted packaging of the three separate SKUs in an attempt to clear out some inventory that’s been collecting dust.

I saw Imabikisou (above) in Tokyo last year. With its freaky pictures and eyeball closeups, I thought I had stumbled onto the newest survival horror. Unfortunately it turned out to be a digital graphic horror novel. Meh.

Here’s how Imabikisou works: you pick up a controller, read a screen of text with a scary background while scary sounds play, hit a button, and read another screen of text with a scary background while scary sounds play. No wonder it was never on your radar, right? Now it can be off your radar on another console: the Wii. Siliconera tells us that Chunsoft’s PS3 title will make the transition to Wii as Imabikisou Kaimeihen, and it will come with revised controls and Wii Remote speaker noises.  The new version is due out later this year in Japan.

It all makes sense now. A "screen reading game" would work fine as a port from PS3 to Wii. Hell, it would’ve been fine on the Sega Genesis.

I bet this is the first and last time we hear of a PS3 to Wii port.

To hear an example of the Wii Remote speaker noises, visit the Japanese Web page, scroll down, and mouse over the Wii Remote image at the bottom.

After our somewhat indecisive take on the game this morning, we thought you might enjoy seeing some of the first gameplay videos from Sierra’s open world actioner Prototype. The fantastic animation and fast-paced action are on display here, as is Barry Pepper, much to the delight of both fans of Battlefield Earth. If you still haven’t gotten your fill, there’s more (Barry Pepper-free) action after the break.

We’ve yet to see if the whole package is really going to gel together, but for a project with this much promise we’ve certainly got our fingers crossed.
