ninja gaiden ii

A demo for the ultra-violent Ninja Gaiden II is due out today for the approximately 14 people in Japan who own an Xbox 360. Chris Paladino of Micorosft’s Gamercore blog confirmed the news via NeoGAF earlier this morning, adding, “Looking for details on rest of world, haven’t found anything other than ’soon,’” followed by a colon and a capital P.

Since March, the NGII page on Xbox.com had a message that said, “Get your hands on the free demo coming to Xbox LIVE Marketplace in May,” but that was quietly removed sometime this week. Ninja Gaiden II will paint the wall with blood in North America and Europe next week.

Gone are the days when arcades represented the superior video game experience. While a part of us may cry coin operated tears at this realization, Capcom is quick to remind us that there is even more fun to be had at home, or at least there will be when the recently announced domesticated flavor of Street Fighter IV is released for the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Speaking in an interview with Japan’s Weekly Famitsu, producer Yoshinori Ono revealed that the home version of the upcoming fighter will include features not found in the arcade original, among them online play and exclusive characters.

As we’ve come to expect from our Street Fighter IV news, Ono offered few specifics, saying only that the team is “watching the overall balance” in designing additions to the home version’s roster. He added that the devs “won’t be adding unnecessary stuff” to the online experience, dashing our dreams of an internet thumb war between Blanka and Chun Li.

If you’re like us, the arcade shooter Galaga is probably sitting on your Xbox 360’s hard drive gathering virtual dust. Even so, that doesn’t mean Namco-Bandai won’t jump at the chance to try squeeze a few more Microsoft Points out of the old girl. Now, according to a posting by the Unterhaltungssoftware Selbskontrolle (USK), the German version of the ESRB, it looks like the publisher could be doing just that with a new title called Galaga Legions.

We know next to nothing about the game beyond the fact that it’s a shooter, but that hasn’t stopped speculation that Namco-Bandai, the publisher behind cherished arcade re-imagining Pac-Man: CE, could be giving the same treatment to another classic quarter muncher. The notion makes us giddy — our hard drives can always use more quality games. It’s the fodder for future delisting that we can do without.

Players looking forward to shooting their way through Far Cry 2’s 50-square kilometers of African wilderness ideal set aside the superior part of a few weeks (at least!) to do so. Varying reports suggest it could take as long as 100 hours (for compass-be-damned wanderers, no doubt) to finish the game’s single player campaign alone.

Ubisoft Montreal creative workhorse Clint Hocking offered us an apparently inadequate estimate when he guessed that the campaign could be finished in as little as 25 hours, before adding that to see it all “you’re looking at a 100-hour play experience.” And, talking to CVG, producer Louis-Pierre Pharand landed his estimate somewhere in the middle, suggesting 50 hours of play time to completion. Regardless of the varying possibilities, it’s reasonable to expect that the shooter’s single player experience will be long, evidence that not all devs are drinking from the same fountain as Phil Harrison.

The kind souls at EA have given Destructoid 50 more demo tokens to give away. We have 25 codes for Xbox 360 and 25 for PlayStation 3 to giveaway. Just like yesterday, you’re going to have to put some effort into snagging these codes.

Lately, I’ve had a love for pictures containing awesome things happening in front of explosions. All you have to do to get these tokens is use a photo editing program to have something awesome happen in front of an explosion. It can be anything you want, so long as it’s in front of an explosion. The only restriction is that it has to be clean (no porn or gross stuff).

Put whatever you create in the comments below and make sure you specify what system you want the code for. Codes will be sent out throughout the day to the e-mail address associated with your Dtoid account. Good luck.
