GH III Coldplay DLC details: Activision’s getting my money for the first time
Posted by: in PS3 NewsIn last week’s story announcing that Coldplay is coming to Guitar Hero, I said that I had yet to buy a single piece of Activision’s downloadable content offerings for Guitar Hero III. Well, it looks like they’ve finally put together a group of songs that I simply can’t resist purchasing, even though I’ll only be playing the guitar/bass parts as opposed to getting the full band experience.
Activision sent out a press release (see for yourself after the jump) today letting us know that “the reflective and emotional chords of multi-award winning band Coldplay” will be making their Guitar Hero series debut in the form of a three-song pack. As Entertainment Weekly told us last week, the first song is “Violet Hill,” the hit single from their new album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends (it came out in limited release this week — as of today, it’s out in Japan, the UK, and Europe — but it won’t be out in Canada and the US until next Tuesday, June 17th).
The second and third songs are two of my all-time favorite Coldplay tunes. There’s the band’s first big hit, “Yellow,” from 2000’s Parachutes; it’s a beautifully written love song. The last song is “God Put A Smile Upon Your Face,” off of 2002’s A Rush of Blood to the Head; it’s…also a beautifully written love song. Coldplay has got the “beautifully written love song” thing down pretty well.
In my opinion, since they’re going for guitar-heavy songs, they should’ve picked “Shiver,” which is a fantastic song and features a killer lead riff. But hey, they’ve done their job; I’m already willing to fork over my — wait a minute, there’s no mention of a price in the press release!
