In a current shocking announcement, Reggie Fils-Aime admitted that while the Wii itself should finally be available this holiday season (now that everyone has already paid god knows how much to get one on Ebay), the Wii Fit would likely be difficult to find. You don’t say!
Fils-Aime also commented third celebration developers “don’t fully understand” the potential of the Wii, which I guess is supposed to explain the reason why I don’t have that many third party titles for the system that I love to play. Still, kind of condescending, isn’t it? Somehow I doubt that understanding the Wii’s “potential” has to much to do with it. I’m sure it’d be hard for Reg to grasp that some developers just aren’t interested in waggle.
By the way, I’ve got a Wii Fit in my hall closet collecting dust, if anyone is in desperate need of one.

After less than a year of waiting that felt like seven, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is finally coming to the PlayStation Network on November 25.
Capcom’s John Diamonon is over at the PlayStation.Blog pimping it out, and also dropping some pretty cool news on an exclusive for PlayStation 3 owners. It seems that Capcom got a bunch of hip-hop artists to create original tracks inspired by Street Fighter, and will be releasing it as an exclusive “Street Fighter Underground Remix” soundtrack on PSN. Artists include Redman, Hieroglyphics, DJ Qbert, DJ Toure, Zion I, Mistah F.A.B., and Oh No.
Diamonon also teases: “Oh yeah, we also have a “little” Street Fighter surprise coming later this holiday season. Let the speculation begin. Talk to you next week!”
OK, I’ll speculate: I’ve it on good authority Street Fighter character skins for the PSN title Pain are on their way. Chun Li, Blanka, Ryu and Zangief will all be joining David Hasselhoff as digital rag dolls sometime in the near future.
That’s my guess. But what do I know? Things, that’s what. I know things.

IGN UK has an interview up in which Codemasters provides some, well, dirt on Colin McRae: DiRT 2, due next year. Yes, the game is in development (for PC, PS3, and 360), and yes, the Colin McRae branding is being retained despite the legendary rally driver’s untimely death last year.
So, what’s new for the off-road racing series that caused Ludwig bodily injury? Not the engine - it’s running on the EGO tech that drove the original DiRT and GRID, albeit an enhanced version of it. “More physical modeling of the environment, improving lighting and shadowing, and broadening the use of our streaming system to allow much higher texture detail,” are to be expected, according to executive producer Gaven Raeburn.
It’s not just retaining McRae’s name, either. “His ventures into events such as the X-Games, Dakar Rally and the Race of Champions have inspired us to look at events covering the extremes of off-road motorsport,” stated Raeburn. “DiRT 2 will be a great tribute, and we’ll be revealing more about this over the coming months.”
Hopefully, Ludwig will still be playing Far Cry 2 when DiRT 2 hits, so we won’t have to insitute a Joystiq Injury Watch program.

Since trophies were announced as Sony’s answer to Microsoft’s accomplishments, its implementation has been a tiny patchy. The worst part is hearing “[game name] to have trophies” as if it’s a massive deal. By this point, a game having trophies should not be bloody news.
Thankfully, Sony is going to put an end to such nonsense by officially declaring mandatory trophy support in January 2009. It was a confirmed by a Sony Personal Entertainment Europe spokesperson today.

Variety — fast becoming the hottest source for videogame industry news and gossip since Surfer Girl — is reporting that Electronic Arts has shut down its “Blueprint” division.
Let the head-scratching commence, as EA has never officially acknowledged this Blurprint division exists. According to Variety, Blueprint’s “mission was to change the development process so that individuals or small teams could work together from disparate locations without necessarily being employed at an EA studio.”
Sounds good, but at this point it might not matter. According to Variety’s source, it’s been quietly killed off, with former members of the team either having quit, been re-allocated to other projects or laid off.

When it was first announced, one of the most-asked questions re: the New Xbox Experience was, “Will my old themes work with it?” Microsoft’s answer was “yes.” The UK’ Official Xbox Magazine’s answer is, “Er … not really.”
The magazine’s staff has - along with creating a frighteningly accurate Avatar of Amy Winehouse - rounded up some of the themes that “work” especially poorly with the NXE. Its choices are strong, but have you found any more egregious examples? Or, conversely, which ones work especially well? Of course, there are always Themes 2.0.
Curious about the New Xbox Experience? Check out our ridiculously informative nine-video feature, covering everything from Avatar creation, Netflix integration, and the 8-player celebration system to installing games to the hard drive, the new Marketplace, the Blade-like “Guide” interface, and more!

If you’ve already judged Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe based solely on the fact that it’s a Mortal Kombat title — or that it isn’t technically as rich or deep as other fighters — the game (and this review) isn’t for you.
There’s no way you could compare the game on any technical or competitive level to any number of Capcom vs. [Marvel/Care Bears/Whatever] or SNK fighters; if you do, you’re missing the point. MK vs. DCU certainly seems to be meant for a more casual fighting audience, with a focus on two important points – ease of play and ridiculous, frivolous fun.
So before you click any further, I’ve to ask that if you fall into that camp — and that’s fine, I comprehend — don’t even bother clicking through and reading the review. This isn’t for you. Here’s a Tatsunoku vs. Capcom trailer; please like it. Save the energy you would have used to comment on this review for the inevitable bitching about how Capcom screwed up the Street Fighter II HD remake because Ryu has an extra pixel on his toe.

What’s the most pointless Thanksgiving artifact that you could adorn a Sackboy with? How about a turkey? According to Siliconera, next Thursday’s free downloadable costume consists of a turkey that can be placed on Sackboy’s head. We’re not sure if its cooked, but the idea of entrails spilling into the lovely tiny avatar’s eyes is worth more than a giggle.
In addition to a turkey, it appears as though the paid option will be a fancy Chimera costume, modeled after the villains of Resistance: Fall of Man. You can’t see the bottom of the costume from the snagged image, but something tells us it can’t get much better than the form-fitting jaws displayed already.
This isn’t an official North American announcement, but I’m pretty sure you can take this to the bank. The very colorful LocoRoco costumes and the T.V. hat at the top of the image were announced yesterday and are coming this Thursday for most audiences.

Don’t comprehend the Gears of War 2 rank system? Trust us, you’re absolutely not alone. To alleviate some confusion, Gears 2 Community Manager SixOkay (guessing that’s a pseudonym) has outlined how the game’s inane touched ranking system works. The whole thing uses Microsoft’s TrueSkill system, which itself is based on chess’ Elo rating system.
The system doesn’t just track wins/losses for rank, but also notes what team is favored to win the match. Horde Mode and private matches won’t affect rank, but quitting games will lower it. Despite the system lacking the transparency and addictive nature of the CoD4 and Halo systems, at least we get how it works now … sorta.
