In addition to announcing new track packs, Neversoft has issued a trio of updates concerning the Guitar Hero World Tour drumset. First off, those who have been experiencing sensitivity issues with the set will be happy to know that the developer will be releasing a drum controller tuning kit for Windows “very soon,” so users can self-tune their skins at home. Neversoft also recommends that if you’re currently having issues, you should contact Activision customer support.

For Xbox 360 owners, the ION Drum Rocker compatibility patch should now be available for download. As for PlayStation 3 owners still waiting on the promised GHWT drum compatibility with Rock Band 2, Neversoft stated it’s all up to Harmonix to release an update for the game. We’ll poke them again to see if we have the ability to get an ETA on that patch.

The Unboxening screenshot

While many of you might have picked up your full band kits for Guitar Hero World Tour by now (the game launched this past Sunday), our review kit just arrived in our Baltimore offices this day.

It arrived in a single, huge brown box that my FedEx lady struggled to bring up two flights of stairs; I heard her complain aloud about her back before I decided to be a gentleman and help her out. I didn’t even have to look at the shipping label to know it was from Activision, and that contained within it were my dreams of potential rock stardom.

Sony takes on Internet Explorer, claims the PS3 outpaces IE7 screenshot

Oh Sony and Microsoft, can’t you just get along? Sony is claiming that the PlayStation 3’s 2.5 firmware update will grant it to browse the Internet faster than World wide web Explorer 7, along with some shiny Flash 9 support. Take that Microsoft, you jerks!

According to Sony Computer Entertainment, the browsing speed of the PS3 has been increased by 2.8. The company admits that this isn’t fast enough to beat out Google Chrome, but is content to outrun MS’ own World wide web Explorer.

You all use your PS3s to browse the World wide web, by the way. That is why this is important.

Although Microsoft dodged this exact question every single time we asked it (and oh, we asked multiple times) - and temporarily dropped other, already confirmed features like movie sharing - the New Xbox Experience’s Netflix app will indeed stream HD content, if your connection can handle it. Interesting thing is, this is exclusive to the Xbox 360 for now: the various Netflix-enabled devices don’t; Netflix’s own “Watch Instantly” portal doesn’t!

Engadget took an episode of Heroes in HD for a spin and reported that “the quality was stunning.” There’s only about 300 titles (and some of those are Heroes episodes, so you’ll probably want to subtract those) but make no mistake: HD streaming is one of the strongest reasons yet to become a Netflix subscriber if you aren’t already.

The weekend’s over folks; put the two days of debauchery and videogames behind you. It’s Monday, so that means it’s time to get down to business … it’s time to play some WiiWare and Virtual Console games, people.

As revealed last week, Telltale’s third in its four-part point-and-click series
Strong Bad Episode 3: Baddest of the Bands (1 player, 1000 Wii Points) comes to WiiWare. The episode features 100% more metal than previous Strong Bad episodes, and may or might not have been launched this week to tie-in (somehow) with the release of that rock game with instruments.

Child murder suddenly a bad thing, claims Bethesda screenshot

Fallout 3 lead designer Emil Pagliarulo doesn’t agree with the killing of kids. As someone who used to live in London surrounded by chavvy teenage scumbags, I would disagree, but nevertheless Bethesda won’t simulate the killing of kids in its upcoming post-apocalyptic RPG.

“This is a series that in previous installments allowed players to kill kids, right? When Bethesda first started developing Fallout 3, we had early conversations about whether you’re going to be able to blow the kids’ heads off,” Pagliarulo explains. “But then we began to think, really what benefit would there be in killing the children in the game? It just seems gratuitous, unnecessary and cruel.

“The reverse of that’s some of the great stories that have been told that involve children. Look at George R. R. Martin’s Song of Ice and Fire books. Kids play an important part in that series, and violence to those kids is an important part of those stories.”

I’m sure this was a totally moral choice on the part of Bethesda and had nothing to do with the fact that the censors would tear the game limb from limb if they dared to include it.

The latest Sonic Unleashed trailer has water walking. This cements my long-standing theory that Sonic the Hedgehog is actually the Son of God, our Lord The Baby Jesus Christ. Also, I am still yet to be dissuaded from my other theory that Sonic Unleashed is a good game.

The music is good, the gameplay is fun and the graphics are gorgeous. I hereby declare that if I don’t enjoy Sonic Unleashed when I play it for our Destructoid review, I’ll spike my hair, paint both it and my face blue, and spend a day’s work publicly displaying my sick hedgehog visage online for all to see.

No, it’s not just your imagination, Guitar Hero fans: Activision has now admitted that (as several fans reported over the weekend) there’s a problem with some of the World Tour drum kits. “We have learned that certain drum kit controllers manufactured for Guitar Hero World Tour have sensitivity issues,” the company stated in a written statement. “We believe that these controllers are limited to ones in the earlier manufacturing stages.”

Though Activision plans on releasing a drum tuning kit to help with the issue, those affected should be able to get some more immediate help by calling customer support at 310-255-2050 or hitting them up on the internet. Oh, and Activision? There will be a special place in corporate hell for you if you charge for this “tuning kit.” Just saying.

PlayStation 3 outperforming Xbox 360 in software sales? screenshot

You really wouldn’t imagine it, but according to financial reports, it would appear that several big publishers are making more money from the PlayStation 3 than they are with the Xbox 360. One writer, who uses the term “bread-winner” far too much, has been checking out some numbers which indicate that the PS3 is now capable of outperforming the 360 in terms of software sales.

The writer claims that EA’s financial statement shows that the PS3 accounts for 17% of its total revenue while the 360 only manages 10%. Ubisoft has a similar story, with the PS3 netting 20% of software sales with the 360 lagging behind at with 14%. In the case of Namco Bandai, not even Tales of Vesperia could stop the PS3 netting the company 57% more sales than the 360.

It is Konami’s report, however, which is the most telling. Doubtlessly helped by Metal Gear Solid 4, the PS3 accounts for a large 57% of Konami’s sales, while the 360 only manages a pitiful 2.6%.
