Wii Fit Body Check Channel keeps Japanese fatties in check screenshot

Really, why are all of these health products being made for the Japanese public? Look at your bodies, Japan. You don’t need this sh*t! Now look over here. Yeah. See that? Fat rolls everywhere!

This Wii Fit Body Check Channel program gives health instruction and sends Wii Fit data to health professionals. It also accepts data from the DS walking title Aruite Wakaru Seikatsu Rhythm DS. Japanese electronics giants NEC, Panasonic and Hitachi all have plans to do something with this tech in their huge lines of consumer products. For example, Panasonic’s system, Plissimo Sigusa, will be offered to health organizations and insurance companies in April.

Andriasang.com says that the goal is to use this Wii Fit Body Check Channel as a bridge between users and professionals. NEC’s system will be used to support employees and their families as sort of a mobile health check.

Metallica involvement screenshot

Metal fans with a close eye on the upcoming Guitar Hero: Metallica have already seen the game’s full track list. They’re also no doubt excited by the inclusion of Mercyful Fate’s “Evil,” a brutal metal track with lyrics like “”I’d love to hear you cry/I’d love to feel you die.”

But Mercyful Fate’s lead singer, King Diamond (a.k.a. Kim Bendix Petersen), is hinting that he might play a bigger role in the game than has been revealed. In a long statement on Blabbermouth, Petersen says the song is ‘only a small part of the surprise” for fans of the band.

Wii Fit remains at the top of the UK charts for the week ending January 24th, closely followed by its buddy Call of Duty World At War at number 2. These two games are trying their best not to let anyone into their special “Top Two” club, despite EA’s numerous attempts so far this year. Lord of the Rings: Conquest, which showed strong sales when it debuted at number 3 in the charts, has now dropped to number 4.

This makes way for EA’s newest contender, Skate 2, which has also managed to reach number 3 in the charts during its debuting week. Strong sales, but not strong enough to beat Call of Duty: World At War, which has been hovering up there for over two months now. The strangest story is Wii Fit’s, however, as it has jumped up from 33rd to 1st in the last three weeks. We’re not sure what sparked this Wii Fit resurgence … perhaps being constantly told they’re overweight by their government has finally had an impact on UK citizens.

Rock Band may have 5,000 playable songs by year's end ... wait, what? screenshot

While Harmonix CEO Alex Rigopulos has stated that the company has no plans to release a Rock Band 3 in 2009, that doesn’t mean the music is going to stop. Sure, we expected the weekly downloadable content to continue to pour into the Rock Band Music Store. But there might be more music coming that we could have even imagined.

Section 8 assets show tough men doing tough things in space armor screenshot

What kind of training is required to wear those mammoth suits? Section 8’s protagonists probably crawl in the desert for weeks at a time with a camel strapped to their back before being deemed capable of orbital dropping in one of those metal coffins. It’s hard to find the practicality of such a cumbersome item, especially if the wearer has to run, dodge bullets, or put a knife in some dude’s neck.

Somehow, space marines always manage to steal the show with their large boots and shiny duds. That’s probably what TimeGate Studios’s was hedging their bets on when they released a new trailer for the game today. (It’s available after the break — you have to be above the age of 13 to view it.)

The NPD Group has tallied up all of the SKUs for Rock Band 2 and Guitar Hero World Tour — both multi-instrument packs and separate games — and found that Activision / Neversoft’s rocker came out on top with 3.4 million units sold last year, twice the number achieved by Rock Band 2 (1.7 million).

Though the staggered release dates (especially for Wii) didn’t help matters, this hardly indicates a terrible loss for EA’s side. The Guitar Hero branding is, after all, a powerful force to be reckoned with. We’d be interested to see how the original Rock Band fared last year, given that it’s also competing for living room space alongside the other two. And hey, why not throw in some Rock Revolution sales data? We could use a laugh.

Square Enix sent word by Moogle mail this day that Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time should arrive punctually at North American retail on March 24. Echoes grants Wii and DS gamers to play alongside one another with a bit less hassle than the original Crystal Chronicles. Remember all those link cables?

The game will cost $40 on either platform and will allow Wii players to use their Miis, some of which no doubt already look like Final Fantasy creatures.

D3 threw a party called the Dorks, Dealers and Double-Ds a couple of nights ago in San Francisco. They were showing off Puzzle Quest: Galactrix, Texas Cheat ‘Em (preview coming on the 29th) Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers for the Wii and the crazy Onechanbara motion picture.

I already previewed the Wii (and Xbox 360) versions back in October and, well, there’s nothing new to state about the game. Onechanbara is a stupidly mindless fun game with eye candy galore. Honestly, this post is more or less an excuse to post a couple of pictures of the hot Onechanbara cosplayers that were at the Dorks, Dealers and Double-Ds event. Damn they’re fine.

Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad
for the Xbox 360 will run for $39.99 and Onechanbara: Bikini Zombie Slayers (the sequel) will go for $29.99. Both games will be out on February 10, just in time for Valentines Day.

Skate 2 screenshot

Back in August, Dyson gave us a hands-on preview of Skate 2 that summed up the new additions to the series fairly well, and so I invite you to sit down by the campfire, and let me tell you in grand detail how the game pans out.

Now, before we get into this, I’ll admit that I’m a longtime player of Tony Hawk games, and now that Neversoft isn’t working on them anymore, there’s no reason why I’d want to touch the series again, so I’m more than willing to jump into Skate 2 as my new mainstay of skating games.

So, without further ado, let’s flip those tricks and kick it into high gear. I’ll show you just how buttery this game can be.
