We may not mind having to do without our precious Nintendo DS and wireless cans for awhile if there’s in-flight WiFi to keep us occupied, but until then, this new measure is sure to annoy. Reportedly, “passengers on commercial planes [in Japan] are no longer allowed to play games using wireless connections with handheld consoles,” which of course would include the DS and Sony’s PSP. Moreover, it was said that folks were also not allowed to use personal headphones and mice that were cordless, further cramping our ability to slip into a personal electronic heaven while cruising the friendly skies. Ah well, here’s to hoping that the attendants aren’t exactly strict with the new rules, eh?

We’ve seen a variety of methods used to help stroke patients regain motion and motor functions, but we can’t think of anything more exciting than playing video games as a critical part of your rehabilitation. Turns out, a number of physical therapists around the country are actually allowing patients to relearn balance and movement skills by playing the Wii, which as you know, it already quite the hit with the geriatric set. Furthermore, injured soldiers in Landstuhl, Germany are also “regaining their strength by playing virtual games on the Wii,” and there’s even suggestions out to conduct a research study that looks at the effectiveness of using Nintendo’s latest console as a rehab tool. Hit the read link for the video report.

We’re no closer to knowing exactly how fantastic a knockoff the Vii really is, but these pictures lend the project some credibility — if a ripoff game console can actually have any credibility, anyway.

With that pesky FCC spilling the beans this week on the DGL-4500, D-Link was forced to show it off at tonight’s Showstoppers event in NY before it was fully ready for prime time. They didn’t have any extra info on the device, and they tucked away a similar Xtreme N router clad in white when we walked up, but at least we got to check out the pretty OLED and run through a few menu options. We also spotted that DUB-9240 wireless USB kit D-Link announced in July, which we found pleasingly minimal.

We’ve definitely seen some of our favorite gizmos turned into jewelry in the past, and while thiakosia’s polymer clay-based Wiimote pieces aren’t nearly as tasty as some other homemade controllers we’ve seen, they’d look mighty geektastic hanging from your lobes. The artist claims to use Sculpey clay along with a single coat of satin glaze finish to construct each of the items, and so far, there’s Wiimote-based cellphone charms, keychains and earrings for you to pick up. Best of all, these oh-so-cute items aren’t outrageously priced, ranging from just $6.50 to $15 before shipping. Check out the rest of the gang after the jump, and be sure and hit the read link if you’re scoutin’ a gift for your favorite nerd.

It looks like Nintendo’s exodus from Redmond continues to have repercussions with some familiar names at the company, with senior public relations director Beth Llewelyn now making it official that she won’t be making the move to the big N’s new San Francisco office. This follows a similar announcement from Senior VP of Marketing George Harrison earlier this month, leaving Perrin Kaplin the last of the big three rumored departures to make up her mind about the move. According to GamesIndustry.biz, Llewelyn’s last day at Nintendo will be on September 28th, after which she says she’ll be “taking some time off to be a full-time mom for a bit.” No word on a successor just yet, but it looks like Nintendo will soon have quite a few positions to fill if things continue at this pace.

Beast is right, this thing is just a monster. We’re fairly certain we’ve held laptop before that are lighter than the Dell M1730’s LCD alone. That said, it can certainly pump out the graphics, and the amBX-esque lighting functions are kind of growing on us. An extra perk to the AGEIA PhysX systems is an exclusive Unreal Tournament 3 level with extra explosion fodder, which is possibly one of the best selling points we’ve heard for the physics card.

While we imagine that reverse engineering the Wii console is a fairly straightforward procedure, reproducing Nintendo’s extensive software library would be quite the trick. That is, until Meizu’s OS X duplication team becomes available. Pages 3 and 4 after the break.

We’ve been waiting and waiting, and after months of speculation, a hardware revision, a couple limited editions, and even a new SKU, it looks like Microsoft is finally shipping “Falcon“-equipped Xbox 360s with 65nm CPUs. According to the eagle-eyed posters in the official Xbox forums, Halo edition 360s from lot #734 appear to be the first machines with the new chips, and the time-honored method of peeking inside the case with a flashlight should confirm you have the latest and greatest once you get your baby home. Check the read links for tons more info (and a fun little flamewar).

iriver’s G10 / Wing handheld game console has been a pretty serious flame-out for the company — while the concept of an 8GB 4-inch touchscreen handheld that rocked wireless multiplayer features over WiBro and WiFi seemed like a winner, endless delays eventually resulted in the device falling off the radar, and eventually just falling off the company’s plans. It looks like the G10 is about to get another go-around, however, as Postdata (iriver’s development partner on the G10) is showing off a revised played called the G100 at the WiMAX World conference. The G100 features a 4.3-inch touchscreen, WiMAX, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, and a slightly modified keypad. No word on availability, but at this point Postdata’s way ahead of the game by just showing off actual devices.

[Thanks, Brian]
