Cryptic Studios, developer of Champions Online and Star Trek On the internet, are officially going to take the PlayStation 3 plunge. In a statement given to CVG, Cryptic confirmed that they’re “looking” into PS3 development and are “dedicated to creating breathtaking cross-platform MMO gameplay.”
Cryptic didn’t comment on a timeframe or which game is going to make it over to the PS3. Current rumors have pointed towards Star Trek Online, but one shouldn’t be surprised if it is actually Champions. Earlier this year we heard that the game was being actively developed on the PS3 alongside the Computer and Xbox 360 versions.
PS3 owners who enjoy the console MMO experience should be foaming at the mouth. Cryptic knows how to deliver a solid MMO, if City of Heroes or Villains are any indication. We touched Champions On the web several times, and always come away with a sense that it is going in the right direction. I was impressed by how well the action controls translated to a controller.

Just as we dangled in front of you a few weeks ago, it appears as though the next Assassin’s Creed will be in a much different setting. Recently, games mega analyst Michael Pachter let it slip during an interview with GameTrailers that Altair will be traversing buildings “sometime in the 1700s.” He then proceeded to say that it could possibly revolve around the French Revolution.
If the game is put in the French Revolution, there are quite a few exciting years it could explore. Will Altair be embroiled in another religious conflict or will Ubisoft put him smack dab in the middle of the Reign of Terror? My hope is for the Reign of Terror because I’m a massive fan of the guillotine.
Either way, a new setting is definitely happening. Hopefully, Altair can learn a few new tricks during his time warp. I would hate to have to dive in a French haystack.

After playing Resistance 2 at length, I wondered if Insomniac suffered from the same issue that Bungie probably had with the Halo trilogy — development time. Time is a funny thing. Take too much and fans are disappointed. If a developer takes too little, fans are disappointed. It’s a thin line, indeed. The original Resistance title, Fall of Man, was a flagship title for the PlayStation 3, much like Halo: Combat Evolved was for the Xbox. Success and generally fabulous reviews do have one setback — publishers always want more.
Zoom ahead several years and you notice that Bungie had to crank out a few more Halo titles to keep Microsoft happy. In a mere two years, Insomniac was able to put out Resistance 2.
Was Resistance 2 under the hood long enough or does it suffer from some of the same problems that Halo 2 had? Hit the break for the full review.

In preparation for Thanksgiving and the short work week, the guys at Sony flipped the downloadable content switch earlier than normal. Despite a smaller list than we’re used to, there are a few hot pieces of content. First, we’ve Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix ($14.99) finally making its way to the PlayStation Store. We’ve been watching this very closely and are always impressed by how pretty the game looks and how wonderfully it performs. If you’re skeptical, check out some of these videos or read our hands-on.
Until December 4, you can get your hands on The Last Guy, PixelJunk Eden, echochrome (PS3 version), Novastrike, and Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3 for the sexy price of $4.99 each. I highly suggest you all go out and purchase PixelJunk Eden. It’s the only game I have the ability to play after drinking a protein shake without feeling like I want to throw my controller through the wall. In other words, the game really chills you out.
There are also some LittleBigPlanet costumes that you may want to check out if you’re a turkey or Resistance 2 fan. On the music game front, The Killers are making their way to both Guitar Hero World Tour and Rock Band 2. And if you still haven’t played Dead Space, feel free to download the Dismemberment demo. It will bring you around, I promise.
All of this content (and the rest listed after the break) is now available through the PlayStation Store right now. Before you head off though, tell me what you’re going to download.

Earlier this year, Prince of Persia producer Ben Mattes bet his job that the game’s computer-controlled sidekick, Elika, would never get in the player’s way. In an interview I did with him not long ago, he reiterated this, saying Elika would be nothing but a positive, and likening her to your favorite gun in Gears of War or Counter-Strike
“You like Elika,” he told me, “because she has infinite ammo, she’s stuck to your waist, she never rusts, she never breaks down, she only ever makes you feel like a super f**king badass. That’s why you like Elika.”
This latest Prince of Persia trailer shows a bit of that off, with Elika working alongside the Prince to traverse the game’s environments and kick some ass. Also, before anyone mentions it, she continues to look a bit like Natalie Portman. There have been worse things, I guess; they could have made her look like Rosie O’Donnell.
Prince of Persia hits the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 next week, and PC later this month. Saying I’m “kind of” looking forward to playing the full game is an understatement.

There’s something about 50 Cent: Blood on the Sand that gets me revved. I’m not sure if it’s the new cover system, the gritty dialogue, the violence, or the fact it’s the first game that will allow players to play as 50 Cent while utilizing a turret. Perhaps it has something to do with 50 finding the time to visit strip clubs as his world crumbles before his eyes.
As you can see from the screens above, 50 is back, and the experience is quite different than the previous title, Bulletproof. We have a new trailer available after the break, but you’ve to be over 18 to view it because of the exploding body parts and practically naked women dancing around under playful purple and pink strobe lights.
In addition to the wicked action being displayed, we’ve the semblance of a storyline being displayed. A mean looking guy has stolen something from 50 and it’s his job to get it back. You can join 50’s fight when the game hits retail at some point this January on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

Harmonix and MTV Games are all about consumers needing only one set of plastic instruments, unless of course you’re referring to the Chester household, in which case I hear they stockpile their peripherals by the dozen in a say of the art vault.
To make good on the words of encouragement, Harmonix released a patch this day for the PlayStation 3 version of Rock Band 2 which repairs a slew of things, including adding support for the Guitar Hero World Tour drum and guitar peripherals.
Neat, huh? A similar patch is in the works for the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band 2, so it’s looking like no one will be getting the shaft this time around. For once.
Hit the jump to see exactly what this mighty patch entails.

On Friday we reported that MTV Games and Harmonix were being hit with a class action lawsuit over what was being labeled a “design defect” in the bass pedal for Rock Band drums.

Sonic Unleashed shipped in North America this week for PlayStation 2 and the Wii, and to commemorate the event, Sega have unveiled Sonic’s first short film.
Head over to the official Web site to check out Sonic: Night of the Werehog in its entirety, a CGI film resmiscent of Disney Pixar films. Or that other company that’s not Pixar, but does quality CGI family pictures … you know, that one. In any case, it’s definitely an pleasing, quality short, well worth checking out. Because really, you’ve nothing superior to do.
