Capcom has released a fact sheet detailing Resident Evil 5, which contains mostly useless information. One point of note, however, is the confirmation of a March 13 worldwide release date on PS3 and Xbox 360. But you already knew that, so it’s not a point of note.
* Chris Redfield, protagonist of the original Resident Evil and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, returns * Chris is joined by new character Sheva Alomar, an African special agent tasked with investigating the epidemic * 2 player co-op on the internet gameplay means that players are not alone in their fight against the horror lurking around every corner * Simultaneous global release date for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on March 13, 2009 * New enemies bring new challenges: speed and intelligence make adversaries as dangerous singly as they’re in groups. * An arsenal of weapons at the player’s command to keep the evil at bay, including knives, pistols, machine guns, sniper rifles and more. * Lighting effects provide a new level of suspense in both harsh light and deepest shadow
With how hot this game is looking, March 13 seems like an age away. Still, at least we’ve 10,000 Resident Evil remakes to keep us going until then. You can read the full fact sheet after the jump. It has facts in it.

When we first got our paws on an early build of Volition’s Saint’s Row 2 in April, we called it “a $200-a-head Las Vegas illusionist performance featuring Pamela Anderson, then Volition’s sequel is a balls-to-the-wall, over-the-top Coney Island sideshow starring a limbless, glass-eating female midget named Senorita Cobrita.”
As it turns out, our first impressions were closer to the truth than even we’d expected. While THQ and Volition didn’t pick up Anderson, they did announce adult actress Tera Patrick as a “special producer” on the game. And while we’ve yet to see any glass-eating, you can play the game as a female with a man’s voice wearing a hot dog suit and clown shoes.
It’s clear that Saint’s Row 2, in terms of its themes and tone, isn’t going to be a serious affair. And that’s a good thing; in trying to find the game’s identity, Volition have taken Saint’s Row 2 in the polar opposite direction of its direct competition, the vehicle stealing title that shall not be named.

While the PS3’s performance in Japan isn’t exactly boo-worthy, it isn’t rocking quite as hard as Sony might care about it to (although comparing anything to the ridiculous success of the Wii is the ultimate recipe for flaccidity). SCE Worldwide boss Shuhei Yoshida recently commented on the topic at the Games Convention in Germany:
It’s mostly a software thing. Price is important, but relative to the the value consumers perceive. There are lots of consumers, game fans in Japan, that are waiting to spend their money.
What’s happening is that lack of support from the Japanese publishers - not necessarily from intentions but from development abilities.
Long story short — the games aren’t there for all the different types of gamers out there. I love my PS3, but I’m not sure I’d disagree. Here’s an idea, developers: make some RPGs. Lots and lots of them. There are hardly any for the system as of now, and if Japan cares about anything more than rhythm games and sadistic forms of sexual torture, why, it’s RPGs. That recipe worked well for the 360 — why not give it a whirl?

As promised, trophy support for the PlayStation 3 version of Burnout Paradise is here. Simply pop in your Burnout Paradise disc while connected to the World wide web to get the update at no charge.
Criterion has a full list of the game’s trophies on their Web site, and it’s an impressive list to behold. Trophies are broken down in awards given for tasks complete in the original game, the Cagney update, and the most recently added bikes.
Unfortunately, the trophies won’t be retroactive. According to Criterion, they’d originally intended to retroactively support trophies, but discovered during testing that it wasn’t possible. So if you’ve been playing the game since launch, prepare to begin with a fresh save in order to unlock some of these bad boys.
Is there anyone out there who’s ready to start Burnout Paradise from scratch to earn some imaginary awards?

Mommy, Sony is talking again!
Another day, another round of promises from the home of PlayStation. This time, it’s SCEA VP of product marketing Scott Steinberg speaking about the PS3’s future, because there’s so very tiny to talk about in the present. In a Keynote, Steinberg reveals that Sony will spend this Christmas promoting the PS3’s Blu-ray disc drive, its first celebration titles, the PlayStation Network and its community features …
So basically, Sony is going to do exactly what it did all of last year and all of this year. Again.
“In the next few years, you’re going to begin to see us separate from the herd. Some of the other platforms are going to look very dated because their life spans are so much shorter than ours,” states Steinberg.

I really do think that a videogame franchise ought to have at least one highly popular release under its belt before it has the nerve to begin offering special editions. Doing one for the first game in a series always looks presumptuous to me. Nevertheless, Dead Space is getting one … and it’ll set you back $150.
Unlike most “limited editions,” one thing that can be said for this is that it is actually limited. Apparently, only 1,000 are being made, so it will be incredibly hard to get your hands on a copy. If you’ve both the cash and the luck to snag it though, here’s what you get:
- Special Ultra Limited Edition packaging
- Dead Space Downfall Animated Motion picture (DVD)
- Bonus content DVD
- Exclusive lithograph art
- 97-page Dead Space art book written and illustrated by the development team
- 160-page Graphic novel
- Ishimura crew patch
That’s quite a haul. Since you’re here, be sure to check out Hamza’s hands-on with the game, as well as my first Jimpressions of EA’s hot looking sci-fi title. Don’t forget to check out the Destructoid review of Dead Space: Downfall either.
Clicking any of those links will not help you get your hands on the limited edition though.

Yesterday, Conrad debuted what Sega is calling “Beastly Tuesdays,” where the publisher will be unveiling various monsters that can be dominated in Golden Axe: Beast Rider. It seems, however, that there is just too much beastliness for one day to handle, so now we have a “Beastly Bonus.”
Above is a video showcasing the Lynth, which resembles a cross between a dinosaur and Battlecat from He-Man. I have no further commentary to add to this video than that. I think that states it all.

Here’s a bit of mid-day sauce for you — this is Excella Gionne, president of pharmaceutical company TriCell’s African office. She’s also a relative of the company’s co-founder. I obviously haven’t been paying attention in class, because I’m buggered if I know who TriCell are.
I do remember Umbrella though, and that particular company’s employee of the month, Albert Wesker, is returning and looking as stylish as ever. The former S.T.A.R.S captain and current undead string-puller still has a penchant for black and I’ve tiny doubt that he’s lost his love of being a backstabbing, shifty wanker.

“This is the biggest game and the best game that we’ve ever made,” Insomniac’s Ted Price told a room full of journalists of the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, Resistance 2.
Price admittedly is a bit biased when it comes to the quality of his studio’s games, but it certainly does have a long legacy of solid titles under its belt. From the PlayStation 1 platformer Spyro the Dragon on to Ratchet and Clank — one of the defining franchises of the PlayStation 2 — Insomniac has consistently delivered impressive and imaginative titles.

Alliteration is awesome, especially when it involves words that start with the letter “p”! Now that that’s out of the way, we’ve got a great deal of brand-new information on Activision’s upcoming shooter, Quantum of Solace, the videogame companion to the film. The movie, a straight sequel to 2006’s Casino Royale, will be out in North America on November 14th, and the videogame version will hit stores in the region a week and a half earlier, on November 4th. Hm…there’s something else happening that day, isn’t there? I think it’s something relatively important, but I can’t quite put my finger on it…
Quantum of Solace will be released on the PS3 and 360 (developer: Treyarch), Wii and Computer, (dev: Beenox), PS2 (dev: Eurocom), and DS (dev: Vicarious Visions), and Activision has put together a bunch of special packages and pre-order bonuses. Starting today, if you pre-order the PS3 or 360 version at GameStop, you’ll receive an exclusive code that’ll be redeemable on XBL or the PSN for a post-launch multiplayer map pack. Let’s just hope that the maps aren’t released a week after the game comes out. This applies to both the regular game as well as the Collector’s Edition on PS3 or 360 (the Collector’s Edition costs $69.99, but there are no details yet as to why it’s so special).
In addition, if you pre-order any version of the game at Ideal Buy, you’ll receive a coupon for $10 off any James Bond motion picture on DVD. Check out that offer right here. Ideal Buy isn’t currently offering the Collector’s Editions, though, and there’s no word on how long their pre-order bonus will last. Keep an eye on next week’s Discountoid to see if the promotion is still valid then.
As for new details on the game itself, its multiplayer portion (which has yet to be fully revealed) will feature “authentic locations from the Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale films and beyond,” and along with standard multiplayer modes, will include new Bond-specific game types: “Bond Versus,” “Bond Evasion,” and “Golden Gun.” You can view a behind-the-scenes trailer on level design above; in the gallery below is a piece of concept art for an MI6-based multiplayer map. Check out Nick’s preview of the single-player mode from June here, and head to the game’s Web site for more.
