Yesterday, Conrad debuted what Sega is calling “Beastly Tuesdays,” where the publisher will be unveiling various monsters that can be dominated in Golden Axe: Beast Rider. It seems, however, that there is just too much beastliness for one day to handle, so now we have a “Beastly Bonus.”
Above is a video showcasing the Lynth, which resembles a cross between a dinosaur and Battlecat from He-Man. I have no further commentary to add to this video than that. I think that states it all.

Here’s a bit of mid-day sauce for you — this is Excella Gionne, president of pharmaceutical company TriCell’s African office. She’s also a relative of the company’s co-founder. I obviously haven’t been paying attention in class, because I’m buggered if I know who TriCell are.
I do remember Umbrella though, and that particular company’s employee of the month, Albert Wesker, is returning and looking as stylish as ever. The former S.T.A.R.S captain and current undead string-puller still has a penchant for black and I’ve tiny doubt that he’s lost his love of being a backstabbing, shifty wanker.

“This is the biggest game and the best game that we’ve ever made,” Insomniac’s Ted Price told a room full of journalists of the upcoming PlayStation 3 exclusive, Resistance 2.
Price admittedly is a bit biased when it comes to the quality of his studio’s games, but it certainly does have a long legacy of solid titles under its belt. From the PlayStation 1 platformer Spyro the Dragon on to Ratchet and Clank — one of the defining franchises of the PlayStation 2 — Insomniac has consistently delivered impressive and imaginative titles.

Alliteration is awesome, especially when it involves words that start with the letter “p”! Now that that’s out of the way, we’ve got a great deal of brand-new information on Activision’s upcoming shooter, Quantum of Solace, the videogame companion to the film. The movie, a straight sequel to 2006’s Casino Royale, will be out in North America on November 14th, and the videogame version will hit stores in the region a week and a half earlier, on November 4th. Hm…there’s something else happening that day, isn’t there? I think it’s something relatively important, but I can’t quite put my finger on it…
Quantum of Solace will be released on the PS3 and 360 (developer: Treyarch), Wii and Computer, (dev: Beenox), PS2 (dev: Eurocom), and DS (dev: Vicarious Visions), and Activision has put together a bunch of special packages and pre-order bonuses. Starting today, if you pre-order the PS3 or 360 version at GameStop, you’ll receive an exclusive code that’ll be redeemable on XBL or the PSN for a post-launch multiplayer map pack. Let’s just hope that the maps aren’t released a week after the game comes out. This applies to both the regular game as well as the Collector’s Edition on PS3 or 360 (the Collector’s Edition costs $69.99, but there are no details yet as to why it’s so special).
In addition, if you pre-order any version of the game at Ideal Buy, you’ll receive a coupon for $10 off any James Bond motion picture on DVD. Check out that offer right here. Ideal Buy isn’t currently offering the Collector’s Editions, though, and there’s no word on how long their pre-order bonus will last. Keep an eye on next week’s Discountoid to see if the promotion is still valid then.
As for new details on the game itself, its multiplayer portion (which has yet to be fully revealed) will feature “authentic locations from the Quantum of Solace and Casino Royale films and beyond,” and along with standard multiplayer modes, will include new Bond-specific game types: “Bond Versus,” “Bond Evasion,” and “Golden Gun.” You can view a behind-the-scenes trailer on level design above; in the gallery below is a piece of concept art for an MI6-based multiplayer map. Check out Nick’s preview of the single-player mode from June here, and head to the game’s Web site for more.

As we have already discussed, Quantic Dreams’ curious PS3 exclusive Heavy Rain features a system where you can continue the game’s story, even if your starting character ends up meeting an untimely death. This is something that Quantic Dreams boss man David Cage would like you to make full use of.
Although Heavy Rain will offer an ability to replay parts of the game and change their actions, Cage would rather you didn’t — he would rather you to try out Heavy Rain in one go, and deal with the consequences as and when they arrive.
“Yes, there will be the opportunity for players to replay as much as they want from where they want, but we would really like to encourage them not to do so - to continue to play with one story bearing with the consequences of their actions.
This is what’s exciting about it. This is a story that you told. It’s pretty unique. So why would you want to do everything perfect and change what you’ve done. You will be able to redo what you like but we recommend not to.”
Basically, if you decide to have a do-over for dying or making a mistake, you’re going to bitterly disappoint David Cage. Do you really want to do that? It took him long enough to follow up Indigo Prophecy, the last thing I want is for him to spend years after Heavy Rain doing nothing because you depressed him, you f*cking little wanker.

Former model and current Battlestar Galactica actress Tricia Helfer is easy on the eyes, we suppose. We’d go as far as to state that she’s what you kids are calling “hot.” So we guess it’s a shame you’ll only be hearing her voice in the upcoming Spider-Man: Web of Shadows
Helfer will be lending her voice to the game, playing the part of the mischievous Black Cat. To celebrate this massive announcement, Activision Blizzard have thrown together a nice package of new Web of Shadows screenshots, a video of Helfer doing what she does best (voice acting, you perverts), and a huge ol’ headshot. Our day is complete.
Celebrity voice talent is good and all, but it hasn’t always worked out for the Spider-Man games. Does anyone remember Tobey Maguire’s and Kirsten Dunst’s stellar performances in the Spider-Man 3 videogame? We’re trying to forget, too.
And what’s up with Helfer starting off that video with “Hey boys”? You know, there might be a few female gamers interested in Web of Shadows (and Helfer) — how about addressing them, eh?

I’m not going to lie. I initially grabbed this news story because it mentioned the Parsons New School of Design. For those of you who don’t know (which I assume is at least 95% of you), Parsons is where they shoot ideal show ever, Project Runway. Yeah, Project Runway. I’m not ashamed. Let me see you design and construct a perfectly tailored dress and pea coat combo in less than nine hours. That’s what I thought.
Anyway, once I found out what this story was really about, I was very intrigued! This weekend, Sony is teaming up with Parsons to host a 24-hour LittleBigPlanet design competition. Members of various design disciplines (illustration, photography, fashion, etc.) are going to be split into teams to create an entire LittleBigPlanet level over a 24-hour period. Once finished, their levels will be judged by a Media Molecule panel and the winning creation will be featured in the actual game. Pretty cool!
Lawrence, one of the competitors, is blogging about his experience here and taking recommendations for what his team should include. Honestly, I can’t decide if I’m more jealous of his artistic talent or the fact that he gets to fully immerse himself in LittleBigPlanet this early before its release.
What do you think? Is this a cool promotion for an even cooler game? Are you excited about the release of LittleBigPlanet? Who do you want to win Project Runway more: Leanne or Korto?
[Via PlayStation.Blog — thanks, Joe!]

Here’s an interesting bit of kit being shown off at Tokyo Game Show. This is the FragFX 2, designed by SplitFish. It’s a PS3 controller designed for FPS games which provides the benefits of a mouse. Note the nunchuk-like apparatus on the left end, the plastic mousepad (which might or might not be attached to the nunchuk; it’s unclear from the photo) and the four Playstation buttons along the thumb-side of the mouse.
Somewhat surprising to me is that there’s some criticism of the device coming out. Ian Dean of Playstation World Magazine has been quoted saying, “It defeats the point of playing on console, really. If you want to use a mouse and keyboard play COD4 on a Personal computer, the PS3 pad is perfectly set-up to play FPS.” He goes on to recommend that, “it’s a gimmick few PS3 owners really want.”
